Best Maca Root Supplements 2026: Ranked by Colour.

We read the labels of 24 maca supplements. 19 print a single line and a single number, so you never find out which colour root is in the capsule. Maca grows in three colours and they are not interchangeable. One formula of 24 printed black, red and yellow with an amount beside each.
Best maca root supplements 2026 ranked on the colour split printed on the panel, black maca amount, and whether the maca line says organic
The Problem

Maca comes in three colours, and almost no label tells you which one you bought.

Maca is a root crop from the Peruvian Andes and it grows in three colours: yellow, red and black. Yellow is roughly 60 to 70 percent of every harvest, which makes it the cheap one and the default one. Red and black are the scarcer fractions and they are the ones the human work has mostly looked at separately. On the 24 labels we read, 19 print one line that says maca and one milligram number. That number could be entirely yellow root and the label would look identical.

The ones that do mention colour often mention it in the marketing rather than on the panel. We read one bottle whose description explains at length that it contains black, red and yellow roots, while its Supplement Facts print a single 1900 mg line with no split at all. That is not a lie, but it is not information either: you cannot tell whether the black fraction is 900 mg or 90 mg. The panel is where a claim becomes checkable, and the panel is where the colour disappears.

Then there is what the root was grown in, because maca is a root and roots take up what is in the soil around them. Organic is the only word here that carries a legal definition, and 11 of the 24 say organic on the maca line itself. One formula of 24 printed organic on each ingredient line, an amount for each of the three colours, and a black-dominant ratio: 1000 mg black, 250 red, 250 yellow, with black pepper alongside.

Took maca and felt nothing? You may have taken the cheap colour.

If the panel says maca and a number, the honest answer is that you do not know what you took. Turn the bottle around and look for three lines with three amounts. If there is one line, assume it is mostly yellow root, because that is what the harvest is mostly made of and what costs the least.

The Checks

Four checks. Miss one, and the panel is not telling you what is inside.

01/04

Each colour printed with its own amount

Black, red and yellow on three separate lines with three separate numbers. This is the only way to know the ratio you are actually buying, and it is the check that almost the whole shelf fails.

Black 1000 mg · Red 250 mg · Yellow 250 mg
02/04

1000 mg of black maca per serving

Black is the scarcest fraction of the harvest and the one most often separated out in the published work. A blend that leans black costs the brand more, which is exactly why so few of them do it.

Organic black maca root · 1000 mg
03/04

Organic on every maca line

Maca is a root, and a root takes up whatever is in the ground it grew in. A brand that writes organic on the ingredient line is making a claim it has to be able to back, which is more than an unqualified maca line offers.

Black pepper alongside

A small amount of piperine is the standard way of improving how much of a botanical is absorbed rather than passed. Five milligrams is the usual figure and it costs almost nothing to include.

Every figure here was read off the current Supplement Facts panel for each product, not from the product description. Where a brand describes a colour blend in its marketing but prints a single total on the panel, we have recorded the panel. Yellow maca makes up the majority of every harvest, which is why an unspecified total is most likely to be yellow.

9.4
Label Score
Strengths 08
  • Three colours on three lines: organic black 1000 mg, red 250 mg, yellow 250 mg.
  • Black-dominant by a four to one margin, which is the ratio the label is actually built around.
  • 1500 mg of organic maca in total, with organic written on each of the three lines.
  • Black pepper at 5 mg for absorption, printed as its own line rather than buried.
  • Two capsules once a day, so a 60-count bottle is a full month.
  • Vegetable capsule, vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free per the manufacturer.
  • Manufactured in the USA in a GMP-certified facility.
  • 60-day money-back guarantee, which nothing else in this group offers.
Limitations 02
  • 1500 mg total is less than the 1900 mg option in this group, if a raw total is what you are shopping on.
  • Vegetable stearate is on the panel, where two of the competitors here get by with the capsule alone.
The verdict Nineteen of the twenty-four labels we read tell you how much maca is in the capsule and nothing about which maca. This one prints black, red and yellow with an amount beside each, leans four to one on black, writes organic on each of the three lines, and adds the pepper. It was the only formula of 24 to pass all four checks.

Veggie Capsule · Organic Maca 1000 mg, One Line · Black Pepper Extract 5 mg · Gelatinized · 120 Capsules
2 of 4Organic Maca StatedGelatinized
8.7
Label
Strengths
  • Organic, and it says so plainly on the panel.
  • Black pepper extract at 5 mg, standardized to piperine.
  • Gelatinized, which is a real processing step that removes starch and is easier on some stomachs.
  • One other ingredient in total: the vegetable cellulose capsule.
Limitations
  • The panel is one line: organic maca, 1000 mg. No colour appears anywhere on it.
  • Nothing tells you whether the black fraction is present at all.
  • 1000 mg per serving, a third less than the black-dominant option.
The verdict The cleanest capsule in this group and an honest organic line on the panel. What it will not tell you is the thing this page is about. One thousand milligrams of unspecified organic maca is, statistically, mostly yellow root, and the gelatinization does not change which colour you bought.

NaturaLife Labs Organic Maca 1900 mg

Veggie Capsule · Organic Maca 1900 mg, One Line · Colours Described but Not Split · 150 Capsules
1 of 4Organic Maca StatedBiggest Total
8.3
Label
Strengths
  • 1900 mg per serving, the largest total maca figure in this group by a clear margin.
  • Organic, and 150 capsules gives 75 servings per bottle.
  • One other ingredient: the vegetarian capsule.
  • The brand does state which three colours it uses, which most do not bother to do at all.
Limitations
  • The colour claim lives in the description, not on the Supplement Facts. The panel is a single 1900 mg line.
  • You cannot tell whether the black fraction is 900 mg or 90 mg, which is the whole question.
  • No black pepper.
The verdict The biggest number here and a genuinely organic one, so if total milligrams is your metric this is the bottle. It is also the clearest example of the problem: the marketing names three colours and the panel names none. A ratio you cannot read is a ratio you are trusting rather than buying.

Capsule · Maca 750 mg, One Line · Not Organic · No Black Pepper · 180 Capsules · Hypromellose Only

7.9
Label
Strengths
  • Third-party tested and non-GMO by the brand's own statement.
  • 180 capsules at one a day, six months per bottle and the lowest cost per day here.
  • The shortest other ingredients line on the page: the capsule and nothing else.
  • Single ingredient, no blend, no padding.
Limitations
  • One line on the panel: maca, 750 mg. No colour, no ratio.
  • Not organic, and this is a root crop where that matters more than usual.
  • No black pepper.
The verdict Cheap, clean and tested, and the brand does not pretend to be anything else. It is also the plainest version of the category default: an unspecified root at a middling dose, most likely the colour the harvest produces most of. Fine as a first bottle, not the one the research describes.

Label
Strengths
  • A veg capsule from a brand that has sold this root for decades.
  • The label allows one to three capsules a day, so you can set your own amount.
  • 100 capsules per bottle and an easy price.
  • Honest about what it is: one root, one number, no claims stacked on top.
Limitations
  • 500 mg per capsule, the smallest serving here by a wide margin.
  • No colour on the panel, and not organic.
  • Reaching a black-dominant amount would take several capsules of a root that may not contain any black at all.
  • No black pepper.
The verdict A dependable, inexpensive bottle of unspecified maca. At 500 mg you are either taking three a day or taking a third of what the better formulas give you in one serving, and either way the label will not tell you which colour you are taking.
What Changes, When

What to expect at 1500 mg a day.

Week 01 to 02

Steady daytime energy

Maca is not a stimulant and it does not arrive like one. What people report first is a flatter energy curve through the afternoon rather than a lift.

Week 03 to 06

Stamina and mood

This is the window most of the published protocols ran through. Consistency at the full two-capsule serving is what those results were built on, not a bigger dose taken occasionally.

Week 06 to 12

The long plateau

Maca is a food crop and it behaves like one: the effect settles rather than climbs. Twelve weeks is a fair point to judge whether it belongs in your routine.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Three lines and three numbers, one for each colour. If the Supplement Facts print a single figure next to the word maca, you have no way of knowing which root is in the capsule. Then check whether the word organic appears on the maca line itself, because maca is a root and takes up what is in its soil. A colour blend described in the marketing but absent from the panel is not the same thing.
Yellow makes up most of every maca harvest, which makes it the cheapest and the default. Red and black are the scarcer fractions, and the human work has tended to separate them rather than treat maca as one ingredient. A brand that leans black is paying more for its raw material, which is precisely why the ratio so rarely appears on the panel.
Maca is a food crop rather than a stimulant, so nothing happens on day one and nothing should. Most protocols ran six weeks and beyond. Take the full serving daily and judge it at two to three months.
Gelatinizing removes starch and makes the root easier to digest for some people, and it is a real processing step rather than marketing. It does not tell you anything about which colour root was gelatinized, which is a separate question and the more important one.
What we would buy

Three colours. Three amounts. Black dominant.

The only formula of the 24 we read that printed a number beside each colour instead of one line and one total.
